The Department of Geography was established in 2012, under BA (Programme) Course. It offers undergraduate courses along with additional Skill Based Short –Term Certificate Course in GPS (Global Positioning System). In order to broaden the horizon of understandings about the Geographical studies.
The Department of Geography has always committed for excellence. Along with the theoretical framework. The department extra care is taken to pay individual attention to the students in their academic work. Students are encouraged for Project work and problem solving sessions to develop innovative and analytical approach in learning process. Recent performance of students in the department also shows improvement in knowledge and skills among students.
Alumni of the department have also contributed to the growth and development of the college and the department.
Experts in different allied fields are invited for interaction and curriculum development, whenever necessary by the department.
Currently, the department is well equipped with Computers with internet connectivity, Wi-Fi facility , various Toposheets Maps, Thematic Maps , Weather Maps, Survey Instrument, Departmental library etc. to provide students an effective learning environment.
The department also encourages and facilitates scholars to pursue their career in higher studies and conducting research with ethics and academic integrity in the field of Geography and allied disciplines.
Scope
The Scope of the Course cover the field such as Geomorphology, Human Geography, Climatology, Statistical Methods in Geography, Geography of India, Environmental Geography, Field Work and Research Methodology, Geography of Maharashtra, Agriculture Geography, Tourism Geography, Settlemeny Geography, Population Geography, tool and Techniques in Geography for Spatial Analysis.
The prospect of this course lies in Survey of India, Space application centre, Urban and rural development departments, Metropolitan development corporation, Social and environmental research organizations. This course makes a sound foundation for the students willing the perusing higher education in the discipline of Geography, Geology, Metrology and Urban and Regional Planning.
After completion of undergraduate programs in Geography, students will be able to,
- Analyze the earth as an integrated human-environment system by examining changing interactions at different spatial and temporal scales.
- To understand the subject matter of various branches of physical and human geography.
- To analyze geographical data and interpret its significance within the context of human-environment relations.
- Communicate geographical concepts and data effectively using oral, written and visual forms.
- Contribute effectively to pursue innovative solutions to human-environment problems.
- Investigate complex real world challenges using appropriate concepts, methods, and tools from one or more geographical sub-disciplines.
- Explain societal relevance of geographical knowledge and apply it to real world human-environment issues.
